Dear Dan, I don't have much history on this pin other than it probably belonged to my grandfather who was born in 1889. It looks to have a very small seed pearl and a small sapphire on it. As stated it features a small seed pearl and sapphire, appearing to be set in either 10 or 14 karat gold. The accompanied push button jewelry box came from Sawyer Jewelers in Keene, likely the retailer of the pin. This style of pin became an essential in early 19th century English fashion as an object to adhere a cravat (an early men's neck tie) securely together. Often worn by wealthy people, most of these stickpins were adorned with gemstones set into precious metals.
