Keene Cheshiremen Chorus kicks of 75th year of cappella

KEENE — The Keene Cheshiremen Chorus will kick off a series of patriotic summer performances across the Monadnock region this week, pulling double duty as they celebrate both the nation's 250th anniversary and their own 75th year of a cappella singing. Specializing in the traditional barbershop harmony style, the all-male chorus will perform a vibrant slate of Americana standards, tight four-part arrangements, and musical tributes centered around themes of liberty and unity. "This milestone anniversary is a moment for reflection, gratitude, and celebration," said Mark Brosseau, Music Director of the Keene Cheshiremen Chorus. "We're honored to share music that has inspired generations and continues to bring communities together." The chorus's upcoming summer schedule includes several regional highlights: Friday, July 3 at 7 p.m.: The group will feature alongside regional humorist Fred Marple and his "Frost Heaves" comedy routine during the Salute to America Variety Show at The Park Theatre in Jaffrey.Saturday, July 4 at noon: The Cheshiremen will kick off the downtown Monadnock 250th Celebration with a performance at Railroad Square in Keene, followed by pop-up street performances throughout the afternoon.Saturday, July 18: The chorus will open SummerFEST with a set of patriotic selections at Alyson's Orchard in Walpole. Founded in 1952, the Keene Cheshiremen Chorus is a local chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. In addition to public concerts, the organization supports music programs and students in local schools. The group rehearses every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, located at 23 Central Square (using the Vernon Street entrance), and welcomes new male voices to join.
