DK's Super History series offers adolescent historical research

Gearing up for the United States' 250th, I curated some new U.S. history materials for the youth nonfiction collection at Jaffrey Public Library. Not only do these materials help to highlight a special anniversary for our country, but they also highlight the history element of our Summer Learning theme. That said, my immediate first pick was the "Super History" series from DK. The books in this series center on important moments in U.S. history, with titles including, but not limited to, "George Washington and the American Revolution," "Susan B. Anthony and Women's Rights," the "California Gold Rush," the "Underground Railroad," and most recently the "Trail of Tears." Each of these books features a visually engaging design and interactive elements that capture readers' attention and encourages active engagement with the content. In particular, one of the things I really appreciate about this series is that each book includes a section on primary source materials, which teaches children about where our knowledge of history comes from and can easily serve as an introduction to historical research for older children.
