Is It A Find

Dear Dan, I have this pocket watch that was handed down to me from my grandfather. It is marked on the case 14k and the watch has a serial number 7158690. The watch is also marked AWW Co Waltham Mass Riverside. It is currently running. I would like to hand it down to my son and was curious as to what it might be worth. It is a size 12 movement with 17 jewels and 800 were made that year. Essentially what you have is an average, but descent quality movement in a less desirable size. Generally collectors prefer a size 14 or greater as the larger sizes were categorized as a man's watch. A size 12 fell right in the middle of gender-based sizes and even though they were often owned by men, they were never as collectable as the larger sized models. The movement is worth around $35, while the case, dependent on weight, could be worth well over $500. It is amazing that something produced over a hundred years ago is still running perfectly today.
