Echoes of Floyd Returns to Stone Church

When Artemis II traveled around the dark side of the Moon last week, it was the closest the four crew members would get to the lunar surface. Fittingly enough, global music fans were suggesting the crew listen to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" while they were without tower communication for 40 minutes. The album length: approximately 42 minutes. Back here on earth, New Hampshire's Pink Floyd tribute Echoes of Floyd is likely to play selections from that legendary 1973 album at Stone Church on April 18 at 8 p.m. Hailing from New Hampshire, band members are Geoffrey Williams, guitar, vocals, sax and sound effects; Seth MacLean, guitar, vocals, lap steel and keys; Matt Desreuisseau, keyboardist (the only band member who lives in Mass.); Mark Grover, bass; and Ian Hayes, drums. All the band members are busy with other musical outfits. Williams and Grover play with Jess Hutchins, and they all play Grateful Dead music in multiple local bands. Recent newcomer Ian Hayes plays in an original band called Tumbletoads. The Keene Sentinel caught up with Geoffrey Williams, 44, of Nelson, New Hampshire to talk about the upcoming show, the lasting legacy of Pink Floyd and the Artemis II mission to visit the actual Dark Side of the Moon. Here's an excerpt of the conversation: Victoria Chertok: Hi Geoffrey! Great to talk with you! Pink Floyd's music still resonates with band members, fans and audiences alike in 2026. Why do you think that is? Geoffrey Williams: Hey Victoria! Pink Floyd has spanned a few distinctly different periods in their own career. Many of the songs in their catalog have become some of the most well-known and iconic, classic rock songs in music history. Pink Floyd can be very healing and therapeutic music. It can speak to a number of different emotions and attitudes. There are a lot of songs that connect with angst and sorrow, but also with hope and with the passing of time and other very relatable aspects of life. V.C.: I heard you say that your band is having one of the best years ever. G.W.: We're having our best year so far, and we're particularly excited to be playing a lot of the same favorite venues that we've developed great, lasting relationships with. We're also playing at new-to-us venues. One of them will be a return to Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia, for an outdoor summer series in August, which could potentially see our largest audience yet. V.C.: You've said that Stone Church is one of your favorite venues because of "the acoustics and the ambience of the room with the high ceilings and open floor, which lends itself to what you do very well." G.W.: Yes, we prefer playing open floor venues where people can stand and dance. We try to shape our set list to keep things exciting and moving along. People tend to think of a Pink Floyd band and an audience that generally may want to sit and take in the show, but we try to craft our sets and shows to keep people energized and dancing. The last time we were at the church, we had one of the best crowds we've had. We're hoping to repeat that. V.C.: Who will be doing lights at this Stone Church show? G.W.: Dale Doucette will be doing lights. He knows Pink Floyd music very well; he's a very experienced veteran in live touring acts. He's worked with some very big names, including Pink Floyd themselves! V.C.: Do you want to give any hints about the set list, or is it a surprise? G.W.: I take great care to look at the set list from the previous time that we've played at the same venue, and I try to give a distinctly different experience from the last one we've done. We've shaped a lot of what we do with Pink Floyd after many of the approaches and philosophies of Grateful Dead music in which every show is different and unique. We are planning a show that spans all eras of the Pink Floyd catalog. For those in our audience who have seen us many times before, we've just started including some selections from 1987's A Momentary Lapse of Reason album. We try to balance the energy and flow with the upbeat, energizing, driving, rock and roll songs and the more somber, relaxed ballad-type songs. V.C.: Mark, Seth and you are founding members of Echoes, which you started in 2018. Can you talk more about how this band formed? G.W.: Mark Seth and I are the three original members. Technically, it was 2018, but we didn't start as a Pink Floyd band until 2019. It's a funny story about how we began: Some of our members were also in a band that played primarily Grateful Dead. They'd been asked to play at a party, but most of the members weren't available; so, most of us, who originally made-up Echoes, filled in for that party. We had such a good time doing it and hit it off so well we decided to keep it going. Since there are so many Grateful Dead bands, we said, "Why don't we do a Pink Floyd band?" V.C.: Amazing that you finally got to see Pink Floyd's David Gilmour perform live. What was that like? G.W.: In the fall of 2024, a few of us got to see David Gilmour (lead guitarist) in New York City. It was incredible; it was an experience that I wasn't sure I was ever going to be able to have. There were moments that brought me to tears, for sure. Being a little too young to have seen Pink Floyd in their entirety on their last tour in 1994, many of us in the band have gotten to see Nick Mason's band, which puts on a fantastic show of all the early Pink Floyd material (Mason is a founding member and drummer of Pink Floyd). A few of us have gotten to see Roger Waters (ink Floyd founding bassist) a couple times with his band. He also puts on a spectacular show staying very true to the sounds of the records. V.C.: Let's end where we started, talking about Artemis II and the crew's mission to the dark side of the moon. It's so cool that we're talking about Pink Floyd's music today and NASA astronauts are visiting the dark side of the moon as we speak! G.W.: I think it's very exciting that we're sending human/manned missions to the moon again. It will be interesting to see what scientific advancements or knowledge we can gain from that. But at the very least, I read a story the other day that had a picture from the dark side of the moon. The article said that this was the first time that this part of the moon has been seen by human beings. So, it's very exciting. There's a quote at the end of the album in the song "Eclipse" when the music is fading out, and you're just hearing the heartbeat. The voice says, "There's no Dark Side of the Moon, really.
