There is snow on the ground and a wicked chill in the air, which is the perfect time to think of the fun you will be having in the summer. The Peterborough Players is delighted to announce their 2026 summer season and invite you to join them on this journey of discovery. The Players will begin their 2026 season with a bang with the fantastically funny, family-friendly "Baskerville" by Ken Ludwig. Directed by Brendon Fox, this comedy features the world's most beloved investigator, Sherlock Holmes, and his beleaguered bestie, Watson. Will they discover who is responsible for the mysterious deaths of the Baskerville heirs, or will the supernatural hound on their tail catch up to them first? There are 40 characters but only five performers, so expect many quick costume changes and rapid-fire banter. A perfect blend of slapstick and suspense, it's a mystery comedy for all ages. The second show of the season will be Colette Mazunik's remarkable comedy, "A Danger to Yourself and Others." You know that funny feeling when you think maybe everyone is out to get you? Well, sometimes that is exactly what is happening. This dazzling new work has twists and turns galore as an everyman tries to discover who he is and the truth of his situation while battling with two conniving con artists. The Players are excited to share this fresh work and to announce that Colette herself will be here in Peterborough to help shepherd it from the page to the stage alongside director Brendon Fox. The musical will be "Million Dollar Quartet," directed by Rachel Sabo-Hedges. Part play, part concert, this show is based upon real-life events and four larger-than-life characters: Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley. Set in 1956 at the legendary Sun Records Studios, an impromptu jam session sees the four young artists each take their own journey of discovery. The music will be performed live on stage by the performers, making it a one-of-a-kind theatre experience. The soundtrack is unbelievable and will have you dancing in your seat. This show will have a whole lotta shaking going on and is perfect for people of all ages! The fourth show of the season will be the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play "Proof," by David Auburn. This beautiful drama is an examination of loss, love and legacy. A young woman's journey of self-discovery as she traverses through what she has inherited from her brilliant but damaged mathematician father. A carefully calculated script plus the direction of Charles Morey will equal a not-to-be-missed moment in the barn. The Players' final show of the 2026 season will be Jane Austen's "Emma," adapted by Kate Hamill and directed by Brendon Fox. This play is pure joy, with memorable mischief, sparkling dialogue and sumptuous costumes. Emma decides her calling is to be a matchmaker; however, as she discovers, the game of love is not for the faint of heart or for those who don't know their own hearts. Prepare for your heart to soar, and your cheeks to ache from smiling and laughing. An utterly delightful way to end our 2026 season. The Players has moved their Saturday shows from evening to matinees, and audience favorites, like talkbacks, preshow presentations, cabarets and value night subscriptions, have been added to the schedule. Tickets for the 2026 Season will go on sale starting with subscribers renewing their seats on Monday, Feb. 16. Followed by new subscribers on Monday, March 2, and individual tickets and Barn Door seat selection starting Monday, March 16.
