Groceries for a struggling family. Volunteering at the local shelter. A donation to a nonprofit whose funds have been cut. And, if you are able, covering a medical bill, a rent payment, or a generous contribution to your community kitchen to feed families in need. &emsp;Every bit helps, especially in these challenging times. When we all pitch in, even small acts of kindness add up. &emsp;In this issue, we touch on just a few of the many ways to give back. Our feature story, "The Heart of the Holidays" (page 16), highlights local organizations making a difference — providing money, food and gifts to families in the Monadnock Region. Whether you buy a gift for Toys for Tots or donate a full holiday meal, every gesture strengthens our community. &emsp;And don't forget our neighbors who run local shops, participate in craft fairs and and operate farms. For holiday events (and shopping while you are in town) turn to the Our Towns column starting on page 8 for happenings in Keene, Brattleboro and Peterborough to get you in the holiday spirit. And don't forget our local farmers who are busy creating special holiday treats, such as Cheshire Garden (see story on page 13).
