Is it a Find!?

Hi Dan, Back in the late 70s I acquired this lamp as a Christmas gift from my grandmother. Many years later my mother stored it in the attic. When my folks moved 12 years ago, I rediscovered it in the attic wrapped in a blanket. It has some light pitting on the chrome, but it still works. The head and arms have a light bulb at the end that lights up when the switch on his nose is turned. Do you know who made it and perhaps its value? Thanks, Matt C. Hello Matt, Your lamp was made in the late 1970s by the Torino Company based in Italy. They manufactured many different styles of modern chrome lamps. Some of their more popular lamps depicted robots, animals and even policemen. These lamps were marketed through major department stores throughout the US. In the last few years these lamps have become highly collectible and in today's market your lamp could bring up to $1100 to the right collector. I have attached a picture of your exact lamp in a 1979 Montgomery Ward catalog with a retail price of $129.99. If you choose to further your collection of robot lamps, Torino manufactured three others in the series: the father robot (largest), mother robot (same size as yours, but with earrings) and a much smaller baby robot lamp. It would be best to store the lamp in a dry environment and to use a stainless-steel liquid cleaner to softly clean and polish the lamp. Thank you for sharing your very "mod" find.
