Local CKYRA participants score 19 gold medals

CANTON, Kansas – The 2025 season is over for the Central Kansas Youth Rodeo Association (CKYRA) as they finished up with a pair of rodeo events the weekend of Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10 where McPherson County participants scored 19 first-place finishes in individual events. Leading the way through the final weekend was Wesley Prieb of Moundridge and Ansleigh Hogg of Canton. Prieb won four events in the 5-8 Division, taking first in tie down calf both Saturday and Sunday while also getting a win Saturday in team heading and then taking gold in chute dogging on Sunday. Hogg dominated both barrel racing and pole bending in the 2-4 Division, winning both events both days while taking second-place in goats (girls) both days as well. Others scoring wins on Saturday included Levi Henry (Canton) in both chute dogging and breakaway for the 5-8 Division with Rustin Ayres (Canton) taking top spot in bareback steers and Keaton Ryan (Canton), competing in the 9-12 Division, winning chute dogging. Individual winners on Sunday in the 9-12 Division, Blain Smith (McPherson) and Lennon Graber (Moundridge) took first in chute dogging and pole bending, respectively. In the 5-8 Division, Payton Wilson (Galva) won first in goats (girls), Addalaya Cathey (Canton) won pole bending, Kinley Clinkscale (Canton) won barrel racing and Rustin Ayres made it a clean sweep for the weekend in bareback steers. In the 0-1 Division, Wacey Boswell (Galva) took first in barrel racing. Over the final weekend of rodeo competition for 2025, 26 McPherson County rodeo athletes competed in 185 events by the two days were over. Jovey Henry and Korbin Hogg, both of Canton, were the busiest as they each entered 13 events during the 5-8 Division competition and Wesley Prieb of Marquette participated in 11. Area rodeo athletes finished in the top-five 81 times in the 185 events. McPherson County communities represented at the CKYRA events this summer include Canton, Galva, Moundridge, Marquette, Lindsborg, and McPherson.
