ArtWalk 2025: Art in the Open

This beloved, self-guided walking tour transforms downtown Keene into an open-air art gallery, as storefronts along Main Street come alive with striking works from more than 60 talented regional artists. From painters and photographers to sculptors and illustrators, the streets of Keene will once again be brimming with color, creativity and community spirit. For more than 30 years, Keene ArtWalk has been a cornerstone of the local arts scene and remains the longest-running festival in downtown Keene, drawing residents and visitors alike into a unique experience that celebrates visual art in public spaces. Local businesses and shops partner with artists to host pop-up galleries in their windows, creating a walkable, accessible art exhibition that spans much of downtown. One of the festival's defining qualities is its diversity of artistic mediums. Art lovers strolling along Main Street will encounter everything from ceramics, oils and watercolors to mixed media, pastels, photography and even quilting. The event celebrates not just professional and established artists but also highlights the work of emerging talent and local students, showcasing the creative voices of the next generation. The result is an inclusive celebration of expression, community and collaboration that reflects the rich cultural fabric of Keene. While the ArtWalk is a week-long event, one of the most anticipated highlights is the Keene ArtWalk Festival on Saturday, June 7. This one-day extravaganza brings art to life with a full slate of interactive, hands-on activities and live performances. Hosted at Railroad Square, the festival transforms the space into a bustling corner of creative energy. Visitors of all ages can participate in live painting sessions, watch art demonstrations, contribute to a community mural and enjoy family-friendly activities like face painting. It's not just about observing art — it's about being a part of it. The Keene ArtWalk Festival also features an impressive lineup of live performances from local musicians and performers, offering a rich blend of traditional, experimental and contemporary soundscapes. Saturday's Live Performance Lineup: 11:00 a.m. – Morris Dancers Kick off the day with a joyful and rhythmic performance of this traditional English folk dance. With jingling bells, sticks and handkerchiefs, the Morris Dancers bring a vibrant and whimsical energy to the stage. 11:30 a.m. – Gavin Key and the Get Down This genre-blending ensemble fuses funk, blues, rock, and pop into a high-energy performance. Fronted by Gavin Key of the Isness Ensemble and Kendall Row, the group also features Christian Raabe (bass), Dave Painchaud (drums), Jess Lamoureau (backing vocals), and a rotating cast of keyboardists and horn players. 1:30 p.m. – Danny Kamps A Gilsum-based multi-instrumentalist known for his roles in Omoo Omoo and Kendra, Danny Kamps crafts immersive, experimental solo sets. Using electric guitar, live looping and improvisation, he creates atmospheric soundscapes that captivate the audience. 3:00 p.m. – Jeff Kolter: Know Your Program Blending avant-pop with surreal lyricism, Jeff Kolter delivers introspective, one-man-band performances full of poetic storytelling and sonic exploration. His unique style pushes boundaries while remaining accessible and thought-provoking. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a casual observer or a family looking for a weekend outing, Keene ArtWalk 2025 offers something for everyone.
