In mid-December 2024, Peterborough welcomed a vibrant new addition to its culinary scene — Domingo's, a family-run gem offering the rich, bold flavors of Puerto Rican cuisine. &emsp;Owned and operated by husband and wife Michael and Drew Gonzalez, the restaurant brings a taste of the Caribbean to the heart of this small town. With a menu inspired by Michael's Puerto Rican roots and a passion for sharing his heritage through food, Domingo's promises an authentic dining experience that celebrates the island's rich cultural history, all while offering a warm, inviting atmosphere for locals to enjoy. &emsp;The Gonzalez family's decision to open Domingo's Restaurant was born from a desire to fill a gap they noticed in the local dining scene. Having lived in Peterborough, the family realized there was no place offering Puerto Rican cuisine's vibrant, flavorful taste. It was a dream they'd long held — one of sharing their heritage and love for food with the community — and they saw this as the perfect opportunity to make that dream a reality. &emsp;"We put out a post a couple of months ago, introducing ourselves to the community, and it has been a fantastic response," Drew says, expressing the overwhelming support they've received from locals eager to try something new. &emsp;The name "Domingo's" holds deep personal meaning for the family. It is a tribute to Michael's grandfather, Domingo, a talented professional chef born and raised in Puerto Rico. After moving to New York City, where Michael himself was born and raised, Domingo passed down his culinary skills to future generations. &emsp;True to their vision of creating a family business, the Gonzalez family is hands-on in every aspect of the restaurant's operation. &emsp;"We are truly a family-run operation," notes Drew. "We have teenage sons, and we are teaching them the business, as well." Domingo's isn't just about food — it's about bringing the family together, sharing their story, and building a connection with the community they now call home. &emsp;Their menu is packed full of appetizers, meals and desserts. All recipes that Michael learned from his grandfather. &emsp;"He has been cooking with his family since he was tall enough to reach the stove," Drew says of her husband. &emsp;Some of their dishes that quickly became local favorites are the classic rice and beans, the savory pinchos — meat kabobs, and pollo empanizados — crispy chicken tenders, fried pork belly and papas rellenas — golden-fried potato balls stuffed with seasoned ground beef. Many of these dishes are served with the restaurant's signature house-made dipping sauce, a flavorful nod to traditional Puerto Rican recipes that adds an extra layer of depth to each bite. &emsp;The empanadas are a fan favorite, says Drew. "It's really like the perfect food, in my opinion. Kids like them, and adults love them. They have a variety of different fillings. It can be a meal and be a snack." &emsp;For dessert, Domingo's offers a trio of indulgent sweets that perfectly round out the meal. Their dessert offerings include flan, a decadent caramel custard topped with smooth and creamy caramel sauce; tembleque, a creamy coconut pudding sprinkled with sweet cinnamon; and budding, a rich bread pudding with raisins. &emsp;The restaurant is not currently serving alcohol but plans to do so in the future once its liquor license is approved. &emsp;Another unique and fun cultural experience visitors can have at Domingos is playing a game of dominoes while enjoying a meal. Dominoes is a popular game in Puerto Rican culture, and they have a set of dominoes at every table in the restaurant. &emsp;Domingo's offers dine-in and take-out. They also offer delivery through SweenEats Food Delivery Services, LLC of Peterborough. They will offer online and mobile ordering soon through Toast.
