Wild Goose Players Reinterpret a Roald Dahl Classic with "Matilda the Musical"

"Matilda the Musical," is the multi-award-winning production inspired by "Matilda," the popular novel by Roald Dahl. With a playbook by Dennis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin, this musical captures the essence of the original story and explores how sometimes rebellion is the only way to overcome challenging circumstances, with a few added twists and turns. First developed by the Royal Shakespeare Company in Britain in 2010, "Matilda the Musical," has since won seven Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical — a record for the most awards ever won by a single show at the time. At its heart, "Matilda," tells the story of an extraordinary young girl who, with her vivid imagination and sharp intellect, dares to stand up for herself and change her destiny. "I saw this musical in London and was just blown away by it. It was just so much fun. It's based on a children's book, but this musical is also great for adults," said David Stern, co-director. "I am co-directing this piece with Hallie Flower who is an exceptional director in this area, and it's been a special time for us to work together," he added. There are about 30 actors involved in the production of this musical; many are local and all of them are from New England. There will also be a live, nine-piece orchestra. Performances of "Matilda the Musical," will be from April 4th to April 12th, on Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Doors will open 45 minutes before the show starts. The running time is approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission. Bellows Falls Opera House is located at 7 Village Square in Bellows Falls, Vt.
