Thursday, March 13: It's almost that time of year when the amphibians wake and migrate to wetlands for their breeding season. As the earth thaws and the April showers rain, thousands of amphibians make this trek, and sadly, many are killed making this dangerous yet essential journey across roadways. In efforts to increase the likelihood of their survival, each year volunteers go out in the evening rains to move these amphibians by hand across the road. The Harris Center will host a Zoom informational training on Thursday, March 13, for anyone looking to aid in this environmental volunteerism or to simply learn more about spring amphibian migration. Friday, March 14: On the second Friday of each month, (Friday, March 14) The Earth Magic Shoppe in Hillsborough will host "Exploring Tarot," an opportunity for individuals to discuss, learn and practice the art of Tarot. Tarot is a rich and practical tool used for insight into self-reflection, decision-making and more. Each month a different aspect of Tarot will be explored. Saturday, March 15: Celebrate the season of Mardi Gras with a screening of "Always For Pleasure," a documentary film by Les Blank about the social traditions in New Orleans, with an accompanying Mardi Gras feast made by Bon Couillon at Epsilon Spires in Brattleboro on Saturday, March 15 at 6 p.m. Les Blank has made documentaries for nearly 50 years, disappearing into cultural spots rarely seen on-screen, mostly on the peripheries of the U.S. Bon Couillon is the passion project of Drew Stephan, who came to love Cajun food after moving to Louisiana in 2007. He began exploring the ways in which food, music, art and storytelling formed and strengthened communities of Cajun country. The menu includes the option of three mains, two sides and two kinds of king cake. Tickets are $75 and available at www.epsilonspires.org. Sunday, March 16: Support Feeding Tiny Tummies while competing for the top prize at Frogg Brewing's Cornhole Tournament fundraiser on Sunday, March 16 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Bags will fly at 2 p.m. for this St. Patrick's Day themed tournament. $50 per team; first and second place will receive a cash prize. Dog Film Festival comes to the Colonial Theatre on Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m. The NY Dog Film Festival® is an annual philanthropic celebration of the love between dogs and people. The festival is a two-hour medley of animated, documentary and narrative short films from around the world with a canine theme. 10% of ticket sales will benefit the Monadnock Humane Society.
