Natural New Hampshire Program Series Announced at the Peterborough Town Library

The Peterborough Town Library (PTL) announced their Natural New Hampshire program series for winter 2025. The Natural New Hampshire Winter Series is generously sponsored by anonymous donors. These donors coordinated and produced the events. PTL is very thankful to them for their dedication to providing educational opportunities to our community in the areas of environmentalism and conservation. The series kicks off on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 6:30 p.m. with "Becoming Wolf: The Eastern Coyote in New England" presented by Chris Schadler. This program will delve into the ecology and behavior of the eastern coyote, the possible return of the eastern wolf and how the two may coexist. Chris is the New Hampshire Representative for Project Coyote, chairs the Webster Conservation Commission and recently co-founded the New Hampshire Wildlife Coalition which advocates for predators. On Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m., Dylan Summers presents "Trail History and Trail Design" and discusses the history of trail building in the Northeast. Attendees will learn how trails are maintained, and about some old and new innovations being used to ensure the longevity of trails into the future. Dylan works for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests managing trail maintenance and recreation infrastructure projects across 200+ properties owned by the Forest Society. Forest Society educator, naturalist and writer, Dave Anderson presents "Maple Sugaring: Myth, Magic and Realities" on Thursday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m. He will share the science, lore and some "dark-robust" stories from old-timers about all things maple, including his experiences at his own sugarhouse at Meetinghouse Hill Tree Farm in South Sutton. There will also be syrup and pancakes for everyone to taste. Dave is the Senior Director of Education for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests; his monthly "Forest Journal" column appears in the statewide Union Leader / NH Sunday News. The Natural New Hampshire series will end with "Future Proofing your Landscape and Woodlot" presented by Steven Roberge on Thursday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m. Steve currently serves as the Extension Forestry Specialist and Professor at UNH Cooperative Extension. The Natural New Hampshire Winter Series is free and open to all. Please note that library parking is not guaranteed. Patrons who are able are encouraged to take advantage of Peterborough's walkable downtown by parking in the Depot Square or Riverwalk lots.
