Nostalgic '90s at the Peterborough Night Market

Jump back into the '90s, dance your heart out and shop local at the next Peterborough Night Market held right in Downtown Peterborough. MAXT Makerspace has been putting on Peterborough Night Markets since 2019 and will be presenting their fifth one on Aug. 9 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., with the theme of a '90s mixtape. This will be the biggest Night Market yet, and MAXT will be hosting eight local musicians and bands, more than 70 arts vendors, seven food trucks, an outdoor bar and lounge, interactive art installations, a mini-golf course and more. "When we launched Night Market in 2019, it was just a cute little event in a downtown parking lot created to support local artists," said MAXT Executive Director, Roy Schlieben. "The concept really took hold in people's imaginations, more and more people have wanted to get involved, and now we really have this great arts festival that is a highlight of the summer in our region." "The '90s were a time where music in particular seemed precious — people spent hours compiling mixtapes for each other," continued Schlieben. "We wanted to bring that feeling back, in a community-centric way. The concept of the '90s mixtape Night Market was born!" This year local musicians have been taking public requests for '90s music at a specially made website, www.nightmarketdjs.net. "We have a full rock band headlined by Charlie Chronopoulos, Decor and Larry Folger, and the hip hop artist Adam Arnone (Adeem) incorporating these songs in their sets, creating the event's mixtape, live during the market. We are also debuting a piece composed specially for the night market by composer Katie Semro," Schlieben added. Vendors from around New Hampshire will be selling their work in the market area, from jewelry to pottery, paintings to skateboards, fairy houses, massages, clothes and everything in between. Food options will include food trucks serving everything from barbecue and Jamaican food to loaded fries, cannolis and pies. At the Peterborough Town Library patio, there will be an outdoor bar and lounge with a variety show featuring music, dancing and comedy. Inside, a mini-golf course will be offered to provide a fun kids activity during the festivities.
